Movie News Elizabeth Olsen Talks Oldboy ADD COMMENTS

As the upcoming remake prepares for production in New York in Lousiana, leading actress Elizabeth Olsen spoke with Empire about what fans can expect from Spike Lee's approach to both Park Chan-wook's original Oldboy and the source material manga by Garon Tsuchiya and Nobuaki Minegishi.

"It's not trying to redo the film it's coming at it from a different view," Olsen says, likening the two relationship between the two films to the Swedish Let the Right One In and the American Let Me In. "As well as focusing on the primary source of the Korean film, for our film there's also the Japanese Manga, so we're using the primary source of the illustrated novel, really."

Lee's cast also includes Josh Brolin, Sharlto Copley and Samuel L. Jackson and offers a western setting to the plot.

"It's going to be a different story," Olsen says, "just because, one, it takes place in a non-descript city in America, and, two, it's ten years later, so technology is different. It's practicalities that have had to change."

Oldboy features a screenplay by Mark Protosevich and is produced by Mandate Pictures.

Traditional romantic comedies like 'When Harry Met Sally' and 'Sleepless in Seattle' are harder to find nowadays

In her new Fox sitcom “The Mindy Project,” Mindy Kaling plays a 31-year-old doctor who knows exactly what to expect in love and romance.

Someday she will have what Meg Ryan and Billy Crystal found in “When Harry Met Sally.”

Or maybe she will fall into the kind of love that Julia Roberts and Hugh Grant came to share in “Notting Hill.”

Which one, in the end, isn’t important. What’s important is that Mindy has a plan and it’s a plan she knows will work, because it has worked all her life, every time she watches one of those movies.

Mindy, whose name in the show is Lahiri, measures life by the standards of romantic comedies, And before you dismiss that approach as foolish and delusional, consider this: Among all possible media role models, most of the others are way worse.

What would be a better dinner date, Meg Ryan faking it over the salad or Teresa Giudice flipping over the whole table?

Meg Ryan and Billy Crystal in the old school rom-com “When Harry Met Sally” from 1989

Nor does Mindy stand alone in seeing rom-coms as her happy place.

Earlier Tuesday nights on Fox we have Zooey Deschanel playing Jess Day in “New Girl.”

Last year Jess walked in on her boyfriend and another gal, which led Jess to seek a new apartment, which led her to the three guys with whom she now shares living quarters and a hit sitcom.

Before she moved in, she told them that because of the fresh breakup, she would probably be watching “Dirty Dancing” “six or seven times a day.”

With that declaration Jess identified the other major function of our versatile friend the rom-com. When it’s not providing hope, it provides solace.

And not just to wistful or wounded women. Where urban legend tags all rom-coms as chick flicks, the good ones get to the guys, too. The difference is that being guys, they don’t admit it.

In the movie “Love Actually,” Daniel (Liam Neeson) hears his young stepson Sam (Thomas Sangster) confess that he’s utterly and hopelessly in love with a girl who doesn’t know he exists. Unless your name is Matt Damon or Denzel Washington, guys, you know that feeling.

After Sam lays it out, Daniel announces, “We need Kate and Leo and we need them now.”

They watch “Titanic.”

Rom-coms are one of the things in our lives that almost always work. You know, like aspirin and microwave ovens.

But there’s a problem.

Hollywood has pretty much stopped making them.

Hugh Grant, Julia Roberts, Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks are still here. But no one is signing them for endearing love stories.

‘Looper’ Time Travel Explained No Comments

Looper Ending Explained Spoilers

[WARNING - This Article Contains Looper  SPOILERS]

Rian Johnson created quite the sci-fi story with Looper (read our review), and like a lot of good sci-fi stories, there’s plenty left to chew on after the end credits roll. Some people may be confused about the ending of Looper, others about the general premise of the story – while more hardcore sci-fi fans are undoubtedly deep into discussing, charting or perhaps even working on infographics that explain the many time travel logistics (and paradoxes) that must be untangled.

To aid in comprehension and discussion, we’ve created a quick easy-to-read breakdown of Looper is all about. It’s only our analysis, and film is always open to wide interpretation – and like good cinema should do, we have a feeling Looper will keep people talking and thinking for a while. Read on for our explanation of Looper‘s premise, story – and yes, those bothersome time travel paradoxes.

-

The Premise

Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Young Joe in 'Looper'

In Kansas of 2074, a mob syndicate utilizes a kill system whereby they send victims back in time to Kansas 2044 to be eliminated by hitmen called “loopers,” who are trained and instructed by a future mobster (Jeff Daniels). The anonymous victims pop back in time hooded and gagged and are promptly shot by the waiting hitman, who then disposes of the body and collects bars of silver strapped to the victim’s back as payment. This goes on until the day a looper finds gold strapped to his victim’s back instead of silver, signifying that the anonymous victim is actually the looper himself – or at least who he will be in 30 years. This is known as “closing a loop”; the looper promptly retires and is free to live a life of luxury for those 30 years-  until he will be captured and sent back to the predetermined moment when his younger self kills him.

This is seen as a perfect kill system because:

  1. Law Enforcement in 2074 has no corpse to pin on the mob. No corpse, no crime.
  2. No one in 2044 but the looper is ever aware of the murder – and the looper doesn’t know a single detail about the victim (until it is his older self).
  3. The looper, whose only kernel of knowledge is that he briefly killed strangers for a future mob, ultimately offs the only person in 2074 to witness these killings (himself), leaving NO ONE who can tie the future mob to a crime (no body, no killer, no crime).
-

The Story

Young Joe is a Looper. He’s had a messed up past, no real parents, and had his lessons on life given to him by a man from the future who gave him a gun and taught him to kill. Needless to say, Joe has issues. He drops designer drugs in his eyes all day, frequents prostitutes, etc. But Young Joe also has heart, studies French, dreams of traveling to “better, more sophisticated” places than Kansas, and gets all vulnerable about childhood and parenting with his prostitute lady friend (Piper Perabo)… Somewhere in that stoic hitman there’s a heart – though often it gets buried beneath the selfish ambition to “get his” in life, no matter what the cost.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt in 'Looper'

When Old Joe (Bruce Willis) arrives, Young Joe is confronted by a possible version of himself that understands the world much differently; Old Joe (as seen in montage) has been down the path Young Joe is fighting so fiercely to go down – Old Joe knows how empty it ultimately is, until you find love. Real love. Old Joe had it for a brief stint of time until his past came back to haunt him (Loopers’ deaths are predetermined, remember?) and cost him the love of his life, as well. Old Joe is fighting for love – and he too wants to “get his,” no matter what the cost.

To Old Joe, the person responsible for taking what was his is someone named the Rainmaker, who is basically the all-powerful telekinetic Hitler of 2074, controlling everything in society from the government to the citizenry to the mobs and their operations. Old Joe’s intel (flimsy as it is) states that it was the Rainmaker who called for the retired loopers to start having their loops closed wholesale – and therefore was responsible for shattering Old Joe’s happiness. Old Joe’s plan, therefore, was to infiltrate the past, locate the Rainmaker (based on hospital records) when he is a young boy, kill him, spare himself (and, you know, maybe the world) a lot of darkness and heartache. Only, Old Joe has three names on a list (flimsy intel) – three children – who could be telekinetic Hitler, and therefore he must kill all three. Old Joe’s ambition for personal satisfaction is clearly exponentially worse than Young Joe’s.

Young Joe lands on a farm owned by Sara (Emily Blunt), a low-level telekinetic who is mother to a genius-level (and frighteningly powerful) telekinetic child named Cid (Pierce Gagnon), who will CLEARLY one day be the Rainmaker. Young Joe has that vulnerable side and heart opened up by the hard-luck story of Cid and Sara – especially Cid, whose story of violence and loss at a young age is so much like Young Joe’s own story. Even when Cid inadvertently blows up a gatman (Garrett Dillahunt), and Young Joe knows this kid is telekinetic Hitler, the compassion he sees Sara showing her son, and the effect it has, marks for Young Joe the difference between becoming men like him (and baby-killing future him), and possibly becoming what Young Joe secretly always wanted to be: a better kind of man.

However, murder-spree Old Joe is too far gone to turn back. When he finally tracks Young Joe to Sara’s farm, it becomes clear that Old Joe’s selfish ambition is the exact incident that ironically enough creates The Rainmaker; in Old Joe’s timeline (more on that later), rumor has it that as a boy, the Rainmaker saw his mother murdered by a looper and had part of his jaw shot off: horrific acts Old Joe nearly commits.

Looper Ending Exlplanation

But Old Joe’s alteration of time means that there’s a possibility for more than one path – so when Young Joe finds himself in a moment where his violent ways can’t save the day, he makes a choice to not be like Old Joe and actually give up his all-important ambition to hold on to “what’s his.” He removes himself (and all the bad Old Joe’s done) from the equation by killing himself, thereby possibly sparing a lot more people times of pain and darkness under the Rainmaker’s reign (presuming Cid grows up to be a healthier, nicer, all-powerful guy).

Movie News Box Office Results: Hotel Transylvania Scares up a Box Office Comeback COMMENTS (1) Posted by: ADD COMMENTS

The ComingSoon.net Box Office Report has been updated with studio estimates for the weekend. Click here for the full box office estimates of the top 12 films and then check back on Monday for the final figures based on actual box office.

In a month when only one movie grossed over $20 million in a single three-day weekend, it was only a matter of time before a movie would come along that would get people back into theaters. Who knew that it would be a movie featuring the voice of Adam Sandler?

Sandler provided the voice of Count Dracula in Sony Pictures Animation's animated comedy Hotel Transylvania, along with the voices of Selena Gomez, Andy Samberg, Kevin James, David Spade, Steven Buscemi, Fran Drescher, Molly Shannon and more. Directed by Cartoon Network vet Genndy Tartakovsky, the movie brought in an estimated $43 million in 3,349 theaters, averaging over $12 thousand per site. It's the biggest hit for Sony Pictures Animation, surpassing the $31 million opening of Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs back in 2009 as well as setting a new September opening record, which was previously held by Reese Witherspoon's Sweet Home Alabama for ten years with $35.6 million. The movie is Sony's eighth #1 movie for the year and it pushes them back into the lead in terms of market share.

Sony also worked on the marketing and distribution of filmmaker Rian Johnson's sci-fi action-thriller Looper (FilmDistrict/Tristar), starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Bruce Willis and Emily Blunt, which was also a significant hit, opening in second place with an estimated $21.2 million in 2,992 theaters, also well above early projections. The movie also was a huge hit in China, where production company DMG cofinanced the movie with Endgame, as it reportedly grossed between $23 and 25 million in its opening weekend for #1. This will be the first time that an international film opened bigger in China than it did in North America, let alone in the same weekend.

As far as last week's horse race, David Ayer's police drama End of Watch (Open Road), starring Jake Gyllenhaal and Michael Pea, dropped from its #1 slot to third place with an estimated $8 million, having grossed $26.8 million to date.

The Clint Eastwood-Amy Adams baseball drama Trouble with the Curve (Warner Bros.) dropped to fourth place with $7.5 million and $23.7 million.

Fifth place went to the Jennifer Lawrence horror thriller House at the End of the Street (Relativity), which brought in $7.1 million to bring its total to $22 million.

Universal Pictures took another big gamble by giving their a capella comedy Pitch Perfect, starring Anna Kendrick, Rebel Wilson, Elizabeth Banks and John Michael Higgins, a limited release into 335 theaters a week before its wide release. It ended up paying off as it brought in $5.2 million in its opening weekend to take sixth place with a $15.5 thousand per site average, which was even better than the showing for Hotel Transylvania. On Friday, the movie expands into over 2,800 theaters where it hopes to build on what's expected to be solid word-of-mouth with an astounding A+ CinemaScore among women under 25.

Finding Nemo 3D (DisneyPixar) took seventh place with $4 million, down 58% from last weekend, with a total of $36.5 million.

Paul W.S. Anderson's action 4-quel Resident Evil: Retribution (Screen Gems) dropped to eighth place with $3 million, right ahead of his namesake Paul Thomas Anderson's critically-acclaimed drama The Master, starring Philip Seymour Hoffman, Joaquin Phoenix and Amy Adams, with $2.7 million. The former has grossed $38.7 million to the latter's $9.6 million.

In one of the biggest "OUCH!" moments of the weekend, and maybe even the year, the inspirational drama Won't Back Down (20th Century Fox), starring Maggie Gyllenhaal and Viola Davis, tanked, doing even less than the lowest projections by bringing in just $2.7 million in 2,515 theaters, roughly $1,000 per site. That makes it one of the studio's biggest bombs, right up there with the ill-advised "American Idol" musical From Justin to Kelly back in 2003, the 2008 thriller Deception and the Rainn Wilson comedy The Rocker.

Even with that bomb in the mix, the Top 10 was up from last year for the first time in many weeks, grossing an estimated $104 million, up 25% from the same weekend last year when Warner Bros.' Dolphin Tale moved into first place with $13.9 million and none of the four new movies even made it into the Top 3.

Rosie Perez plays a strong-minded teacher in the new education drama 'Won't Back Down'

Acting and activism go together for Rosie Perez. And both explain her involvement in “Won’t Back Down,” out Friday, a controversial movie at the center of a debate about education.

Perez says she’s hopeful “Won’t Back Down” will spark a change and inspire communities to try to improve public education — as the movie’s protagonists do in a dramatic way.

“I think the movie shows that everyone can have a say,” Perez says. “I think it’s everybody’s civic duty to speak their minds. That’s kind of the American spirit, right?”

In her own life, Perez has long advocated for arts in the schools, especially since she learned firsthand how much they matter.

“I had a tough childhood and art was an emotional release,“ Perez says of growing up in Bushwick.

“What people don’t understand is that we’ve made so many advances and research has shown that you can’t just teach to one side of the brain. When you incorporate arts into a specific curriculum, kids understand and comprehend academics more easily.”

She’s the artistic board chair at Urban Arts Partnership, which works with public schools throughout New York City to integrate an arts-based curriculum into classrooms.

That’s not all. The Academy Award-nominated actress and activist was also appointed to the Presidential Advisory Council in 2010, and is a dedicated advocate not only for HIV/AIDS awareness, but also for improving public education.

Now the actress who starred in movies like “Fearless” and “Do the Right Thing” is making a splash in “Won’t Back Down.” The new movie follows a mother (Maggie Gyllenhaal) and teacher (Viola Davis) who band together to take control of their school. They use a fictionalized version of the “parent trigger law,” which was first instituted by California legislation.

Prior to the film’s release, American Federation of Teachers President Randi Weingarten criticized the film’s depiction of teachers’ unions as the villain and privatization as the cure.

Weingarten compared the fictional film to the 2010 documentary “Waiting for Superman.” That movie, like “Won’t Back Down,” was produced by Walden Media, and “Superman” notably took Weingarten to task.

At the movie’s New York premiere last week, a reported 50 protesters turned out to show their disapproval of the movie’s politics.

Given Perez’s involvement with schools issues, the actress says she simply wanted to do teachers justice through her character. Perez plays Breena, a strong-minded teacher leery about the overthrow.

“There are teachers that do take a leap of faith by leaving the teachers’ union and that’s a scary thing, because the teachers’ union provides protection,” Perez says.

In an earlier draft of the script, co-writer and director Daniel Barnz featured Breena as “a little jokey,” she says.

“It’s not a funny subject,“ Perez says, revealing that she went to Barnz to suggest he use her character to highlight the difficult issues involved.

In “Won’t Back Down,” Davis’ character, Nona, states that, “If you change a school, you change a neighborhood.” Perez helps prove that off-screen. Her Urban Arts works with many schools in lower-income areas.

She says the first thing that too many students see at school is a metal detector.

“The second thing,” she says, “is a correction officer with a gun on the side of their belt and a night stick — and that’s before they even walk down the hallway.”

There have been a few changes in the gang as 'Jersey Shore' heads into its sixth and final season

Anyone who doubts the drama on “Jersey Shore” is real needed only to be at the Beachcomber Bar and Grill in Seaside Heights recently. Most of the gang had gathered there to film a promo to run before and during the final-season premiere, which airs Thursday at 10 p.m.

And their behind-the-scenes behavior would have been familiar to fans who fell in love with the cast members’ quirks over the past three years.

Vinny was on the lookout for hot girls, Deena was getting overly emotional, and Mike was sitting apart from the rest of his roommates.

Before fiming began, Mike (The Situation) Sorrentino, Vinny Guadagnino, Sammi Giancola, Ronnie Ortiz-Magro and Deena Cortese relaxed in a room above the bar, while a flock of young extras awaited their arrival downstairs.

“Vinny asked me how things were looking down there,” said Michael Carbone, owner of the Beachcomber, where Nicole (Snooki) Polizzi famously got punched in the face by a guy in season one. “I said, ‘Vinny, the pickins are slim.’”

Apparently, Guadagnino has gotten over his vow of celibacy, which he announces in episode two of the upcoming sixth season, which was shot over the summer.

“Sometimes you just need a change,” he tells the Daily News. “We spent all five seasons doing one thing, and that was just girls, girls, girls.

“So I got to a point where I wanted to see what else is there in life,” Guadagnino adds. “I don’t want to get my mind clouded by sex. So I was kind of like, let’s see if there’s more out there and if I can be something else other than a man-whore.”

Sorrentino then left the bar for a while before filming for the promo began, saying jet lag had left him not feeling well.

His castmates insist there’s no bad blood, and say they got closer than ever to him in season six.

The season starts with Sorrentino recently out of rehab for substance abuse. While driving to Seaside Heights, he announces that he probably hasn’t come over the bridge sober since the first summer.

Wanting to do something nice for his roommates, he stocks up on food and cooks them a huge meal, apologizing to everyone for problems he caused.

“I didn’t know if they were going to realize, hey, he rehabilitated himself and he looks great and sounds good,” Sorrentino tells The News. “You have to sometimes walk the walk rather than talk the talk. So I really wanted to go into the house and show them how I was and tell them the stories firsthand.”

Sorrentino says he decided to seek help after realizing he had trouble getting through simple appearances.

David Hinckley's Top Ten in TV for Sunday, Sept. 30

1. “Once Upon a Time” (ABC, Sunday, 8 p.m.) A new season is preceded by an hour-long recap of last season. More shows should do this.

2, “The Good Wife” (CBS, Sunday, 9 p.m.) The best drama on broadcast TV begins a new season with, naturally, multiple crises.

3. “Boardwalk Empire” (HBO, Sunday, 9 p.m.) Back and badder than ever.

4. “Dexter” (Showtime, Sunday, 9 p.m.) Dexter’s not-sister Deb finds out what he’s been up to — serial killing — and she is not happy.

5. “Homeland” (Showtime, Sunday, 10 p.m.) Claire Danes keeps trying to save the world and her sanity, in no particular order.

6. “Copper” (BBC America, Sunday, 10 p.m.) New York in the 1860s, and from the problems, it could be today.

7. “The Mentalist” (CBS, Sunday, 10 p.m.) Patrick Jane remains insufferably entertaining.

8. Presidential Debate (multiple channels, Wednesday, 9 p.m.) Okay, we’re all sick of the campaign. But one of these guys will be running the country.

9. “Caligula: 1,400 Days of Terror” (History, Wednesday, 9 p.m.) If enough people ignore the previous item, someday this could become the option. Just saying.

10. “Boss” (Starz, Friday, 10 p.m.) Kelsey Grammer leaves no doubt who is America’s most ruthless mayor.

Total Film: The Modern Guide to The Movies Kathleen Kennedy updates on Jurassic Park 4

While we recently heard news that the possibility of a fifth Indiana Jones film is still looming on the horizon, another Spielberg sequel seems to be ticking along nicely in the form of Jurassic Park 4.

Producer Kathleen Kennedy recently provided an update on the project, explaining that they're still at the script-writing stage, working out what approach the next film should potentially take.

"Writing, writing, writing," she said, when asked what stage the project is currently at. "It's really hard to keep these things going when there's an expectation and a desire by the public and the audience to keep certain franchises going."

"As filmmakers, we often sit there going, 'Okay. We have to answer the question, 'Why do another one?'' If you can't answer that question, you shouldn't be doing it. It's tough. We're trying to come up with a story that makes sense and isn't going to disappoint people and is, hopefully, going to get people excited and reinvigorate the franchise. We've got to start with a script and the story."

Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes scribes Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver have recently been drafted in to help with that, and if they can do for the dinosaurs what they did for the apes, we could yet be in for a treat...

SYNOPSIS

It has been eight years since Batman vanished into the night, turning, in that instant, from hero to fugitive. Assuming the blame for the death of D.A. Harvey Dent, the Dark Knight sacrificed everything for what he and Commissioner Gordon both hoped was the greater good. For a time the lie worked, as criminal activity in Gotham City was crushed under the weight of the anti-crime Dent Act.

But everything will change with the arrival of a cunning cat burglar with a mysterious agenda. Far more dangerous, however, is the emergence of Bane, a masked terrorist whose ruthless plans for Gotham drive Bruce out of his self-imposed exile. But even if he dons the cape and cowl again, Batman may be no match for Bane.

CBS’ ‘48 Hours’ returns to the scene of the crime with a suspect in 2008 murder story

For 25 years, they’ve had the softest touch in the hard news business — and impacted countless lives along the way.

It's hard to believe that CBS News’ murder mystery magazine “48 Hours” has been on TV for a quarter of century, a rarity in a field where most programs last only a matter of months.

Against all odds, the show is thriving after carving out a niche, helping to solve cold cases and other twisted tales of murder.

“I feel like we’ve trained all of our lives for these stories,” said senior executive producer Susan Zirinsky, who was the inspiration for Holly Hunter’s character as a television news producer in the Oscar-nominated film “Broadcast News.”

“Our success has got everything to do with the team of journalists who put their heart and soul into this,” Zirinsky said. “The reporters on this show are really superior journalists — at every turn they never cease to amaze me.”

“48 Hours” continues its incredible run tonight, picking up the latest developments from a case it first profiled in 2008 about a Kansas woman who has spent more than a decade seeking justice for the brutal death of her father and his fiancée.

Now the case has moved forward — the woman’s mother, first named publicly as a suspect years ago by “48 Hours,” has been arrested.

“It’s not unusual for us to have followed cases for up to 17 years,” Zirinsky said.

Since it began, the show has helped exonerate seven people falsely convicted of crimes. High points include devoting six shows to the case of Marty Tankleff, a Long Island teenager convicted of murdering his parents in 1990.

Soon after “48 Hours” began looking into his case, an appellate court overturned his conviction, 17 years after he had gone to prison. Tankleff, 41, is now in law school.

Other investigations that helped spring the wrongly accused include the case of the West Memphis Three, Death Row inmate Damien Echols and his co-defendants, Jason Baldwin and Jessie Misskelley, who were sentenced to life for killing three young boys in 1994.

Fox News anchor Shepard Smith goes from nervous to wreck in report on carjacker who commits suicide on live TV

Before the shooting:
“It looks like he’s a little disoriented or something. It’s always possible the guy could be on something. (Gasps in the newsroom) Get off, get off, get off, get off. Get it off! Get it off! Get it off!”

After the shooting:

“Well, some explaining to do. While we were taking that car chase and showing it to you live, when the guy pulled over and got out of the vehicle, we went on delay. That is why I didn’t talk for about 10 seconds. We created a five-second delay. As if you were to bleep back your DVR five seconds, that’s what we did, with the picture we were showing you.

“So that we would see in the studio what was happening five seconds before you did, so that if anything went horribly wrong, we would be able to cut away from it without subjecting you to it.

“And we really messed up. And we’re all very sorry. That didn’t belong on TV. We took every precaution we knew how to take to keep that from being on TV. And I personally apologize to you that that happened.
Sometimes we see a lot of things we don’t let get to you, because it is not time appropriate, it is insensitive, it is just wrong. And that was wrong. And that won’t happen again on my watch. And I’m sorry.”

Movie News Johnny Depp Won't Star in Wes Anderson's Grand Budapest Hotel ADD COMMENTS

Earlier this year, Wes Anderson had the second biggest hit of his career with Moonrise Kingdom, a coming-of-age comedy that had many people feeling the movie may be remembered during the upcoming awards season.

A couple months after that, the elusive Anderson was ready to announce his next movie The Grand Budapest Hotel and a couple sources reported that Johnny Depp would be starring in said movie.

Turns out that this won't be the case.

While speaking with Mike Ryan of The Huffington Post earlier today, Anderson stated that Depp would not be starring in his next feature after all.

As he told them:

"You know, the Internet has a way of announcing things on its own [laughs]. You will find that even though I'm very aware of the cast that has been announced on its own devices, you'll never find me saying who's in the movie. Or, as far as I know, anybody else. I really don't know where it all comes from. In fact, Johnny is somebody who I would love to work with at some point, but he's not going to be in this movie. But I actually have not put the cast out -- I have not announced the cast. We have quite a great cast.

Even though Anderson remains mum on his cast, we already know that Bill Murray is back for the movie from recent news reports out of the Toronto International Film Festival where Murray was promoting his upcoming Hyde Park on the Hudson. It's also been reported that Angela Lansbury is going to play a role, her first teaming with Anderson.

‘Sons of Anarchy’ actor Johnny Lewis was 'out of control' before rampage, championed Scientology drug-treatment program before rampage

Actor Johnny Lewis helped promote Scientology's controversial drug rehab program before a downward spiral led him to jail, court-ordered rehab elsewhere, the murder of his landlady and possible suicide, documents show.

Lewis publicly promoted the Church of Scientology's drug program, Narconon, in 2004, saying his mom used Narconon materials to teach him to avoid drugs.

A photo of Lewis at a Narconon event was posted on the program's website until late Thursday. Lewis' parents are active members of the controversial church, and his father co-wrote a movie with founder L. Ron Hubbard, according to IMDB.

The dad also appears in a 2011 YouTube video lecturing about ways to deal with crisis using Hubbard's teachings.

Lewis spent two seasons playing Kip (Half Sack) Epps on the FX motorcycle-gang drama "Sons of Anarchy," but his life had steadily unraveled over the past 10 months as he struggled with drug and mental-health issues, according to court documents and Los Angeles probation officers.

The former paramour of singer Katy Perry had been arrested three times in 2012 and was only five days out of jail before the bizarre and violent rampage in Los Angeles on Wednesday that left him and his 81-year-old landlady, Catherine Davis, dead.

Catherine Davis was bludgeoned to death by Lewis, police said.

Investigators were probing whether Lewis had been on a popular new synthetic drug called Smiles, the Daily News reported Thursday.

Lewis was renting a room from Davis, who owned a sprawling hillside home that she advertised as a “villa” for actors and writers.

On Wednesday morning, the troubled actor allegedly went berserk in Davis' living quarters, ransacking furniture and bludgeoning the elderly woman to death, police said.

She was also strangled and her cat dismembered, sources said.

Lewis then hopped an external privacy wall and attacked a house painter next door, reportedly using a 2-by-4 board and a paint roller, police said.

The house's owner, Daniel Blackburn, rushed to the painter's aid and was badly beaten.

He had deep red bruising around his eyes Thursday when he told The News he also sustained a chipped tooth in the melee.

Lewis climbed back over the wall as multiple neighbors called for help, traveled across Davis' property again and either fell or jumped to his death in her driveway.

The cause of death will be declared after toxicology results come in, Assistant Chief Coroner Ed Winter told The News.

Probation officials had warned Lewis' behavior was growing increasingly erratic in recent months, even as the actor continued to land movie roles.

"This officer is very concerned for the well being of not only the community but that of the defendant. It is apparent to this officer that the defendant suffers from some form of chemical dependency, mental health issue and a lack of permanent housing," a probation officer wrote in recent report.

Family and friends had made repeated attempts to get help for Lewis to address "drug abuse and mental illness," sources told the Los Angeles Times.

Both Perry and "Sons of Anarchy" creator Kurt Sutter expressed sorrow over his death. The tragic end did not come as a complete surprise, Sutter said on Twitter.

“I wish I could say that I was shocked by the events last night, but I was not," the tweet said. "I am deeply sorry that an innocent life had to be thrown into his destructive path."

Lewis had also become increasingly violent, court records indicate.

On Jan. 3, Lewis was arrested after breaking into a Los Angeles-area town home and beating two men over their heads with an empty Perrier bottle.

Lewis was taken into custody a month later for assault and then days later for trying to break into a woman's Santa Monica, Calif., home.

He was arrested in March for failing to appear in court and was jailed until late May.

A judge ordered the actor into a 30-day drug and mental-health treatment program.

He spent time at the Ridgeview Ranch Residential Treatment program and then represented himself in court Aug. 8 when he pleaded no contest to the Jan. 3 assault.

He was sentenced to 365 days in jail. He was convicted of the burglary Aug. 17, receiving 291 days in jail.

He was released Sept. 21 due to jail overcrowding and credit for his time behind bars earlier in the year.

Police said he rented his room from Davis in the last two weeks.

Her upscale home on a sleepy street was billed as a "Writer's Villa" online and lists celebrities Parker Posey, Paula Poundstone and "Hung" star Thomas Jane among its prior tenants.

Lewis' acting career spanned 12 years and included a star turn in 2007's "Aliens vs. Predator - Requiem," as well as recurring roles on the TV series "The O.C." and "American Dream."

Lewis grew up in Los Angeles and reportedly has a daughter from a prior relationship.

His father works at the Valley Life Improvement Center, which incorporates Scientology into its counseling.

A blood splatter seen in the driveway of a home in the Los Feliz area of Los Angeles on Thursday, a day after the body of "Sons of Anarchy" actor Johnny Lewis, 28, was found there.

"Johnny was the bright star of our lives. We always looked up to him, and now I guess we'll have to look up a little higher," dad Michael Lewis, 62, told The News as his voice cracked with emotion.

He declined to discuss the circumstances of his son's death. "That's all I can tell you," he said.

Davis was kind and generous, said neighbors who lived in her affluent Los Feliz community.

"Catherine was very friendly and lively and fun," recalled Barbara Angvire, her neighbor since the 1960s. "My son used to play with her daughter Margaret. I was so shocked to hear this happened. We've lived here since the 1960s. I feel so bad for her daughter."

Young Brazilians auction off virginity online to raise funds for charity

A Brazilian student is auctioning off her virginity to the highest bidder to raise cash to build homes for poverty-stricken families.

Catarina Migliorini, 20, is set to plough the money — currently standing at $160,000 — into a non-governmental organization that will construct modern houses in her southern home state of Santa Catarina.

Rejecting claims she is a prostitute, she said she still believed in love but saw the opportunity to make a positive difference to the world.

But the physical education student has sparked controversy because she will be followed every step of the way by an Australian film crew for a documentary film called “Virgins Wanted.”

She said: “I saw this as a business. I have the opportunity to travel, to be part of a movie and get a bonus with it.

“If you only do it once in your life then you are not a prostitute, just like if you take one amazing photograph it does not automatically make you a phototgrapher.

“The auction is just business, I'm a romantic girl at heart and believe in love. But this will make a big difference to my area,” she told Folha newspaper.

She will receive $20,000 and 90% of the final auction price, which ends on Oct. 15.

The winner will be tested for sexually transmitted diseases prior to the encounter, which will take place on an airplane flying between Australia and the United States, in a bid to circumvent prostitution laws.

Sex toys will be banned, and a condom will be compulsory, with Migliorini saying she was prepared to prove to any sceptics that she has not had sex before.
