Sesame Street threatens lawsuit over sexy Big Bird costumes

What a dirty bird!

An online costume store could be slapped with a lawsuit from Sesame Workshop for selling a shockingly sexy Big Bird outfit.

The retailer, Yandy.com is selling the costume — which features a revealing yellow dress, thigh-high stockings and Big Bird feet — for a $29.95.

It tries to work around the copyright by calling the outfit “Exclusive Yellow Dress and Stockings.”

The website suggests potential customers pair the costume with seamless Lycra hotpants for $6.95 and an officially licensed Big Bird headband for $9.95.

The headband, made by Disguise, Inc. is Sesame Street’s authorized costume licensee, Seseame Workshop officials said yesterday.

“We have contacted the sellers of the infringing costumes demanding that they stop producing and selling these (obvious) imitations,” the official said.

“Our legal team has sent a cease and desist letter to the website selling them, we will monitor the site, and follow up accordingly to make sure the items in question are removed.”

It’s the latest high-profile twist for the beloved giant, yellow bird who has unintentionally been dragged into the national debate when during the first presidential debate Republican candidate Mitt Romney said he would cut funding to PBS — thereby firing Big Bird.

In response people have taken to picketing Romney rallies wearing Big Bird costumes. Some even carry signs urging the contender to “Crack down on Wall Street, not Sesame Street.”

“It’s crazy,” a Sesame Street source told The Daily News.

“All these years and we’ve never gotten this volume of attention.”

Yandy.com officials declined to comment.
