We just finished the Tournament of Movie Fanatic Comedy Bracket, where you named Monty Python and the Holy Grail as the best comedy of all time! We enjoyed doing it so much that we decided to get right into a new bracket, and since it's October, what better category to bracket-ize than horror movies?
With that, Movie Fanatic is thrilled to announce the Tournament of Movie Fanatic Horror Bracket! Our very own Joel Amos (the red team) and Micah Gordon (the blue team) have nominated their top 8 horror movies, and we will pit them against each other in a head-to-head playoff-style bracket. You, the reader, will vote for who moves on, until we crown one movie the Movie Fanatic Champion!
The first matchup is: The Exorcist vs. 28 Days Later. Scroll down to read about each film and cast your vote, then take a look at the bracket below!
The Exorcist: The Exorcist is considered by many to be the scariest movie of all time. Even people who do not like horror movies have given the film a viewing...to their utter terror! The film has so many iconic moments, from star Linda Blair’s head turning and vomiting all over her room to those haunting stairs in Georgetown. Every exorcism movie that comes along will always be measured to the great original directed by William Friedkin that also starred Max von Sydow as the iconic character that is Father Merrin. vs.
28 Days Later: The film that reinvigorated the zombie horror genre, 28 Days Later was also one of the pioneering movies in the digital video movement. With a unique and terrifying aesthetic and a focus on realism by director Danny Boyle, audiences left the theater with the unsettling feeling that something like this could actually happen. Add on excellent performances from Cillian Murphy and new Skyfall Bond Girl Naomie Harris, and you've got a great horror movie. Head to our 28 Days Later quotes page for more.
