OBVIOUSLY he’s not afraid of heights.
Theo James, the star of a new CBS cop show called “Golden Boy,” was caught by the Daily News filming a scene in which he tries to rescue a suicidal man who has climbed out on a ledge several stores above a busy SoHo street.
“For me there’s no substitute to filming in New York City,” series co-creater Nicholas Wootton said.
“But we had a talk [with the cast and crew] at the beginning of the season making it clear that we’re in people’s backyards,” he said.
On the show, slated to debut this winter, James plays Walter William Clark Jr. a cop who rises rapidly from officer to detective and ultimately to police commissioner.
Ryan Phillippe was originally supposed to play Clark, but dropped out of the role after he had doubts about committing to a potentially long-running TV drama.
For the series, even real-life Police Commissioner Ray Kelly pitched in, meeting with a writer from the show to help explain exactly how the top brass operates at NYPD headquarters, Wootton said.
“We were blown away by how cool he is,” said Wootton. “It’s amazing how much responsibility is laid on that man’s shoulders.”
He added that James’ character is not based on Kelly: “Our character is a devious politician, Ray Kelly is not.”
