The new trailer for Gangster Squad has emerged online, and it's more violent and more hard-boiled than any of the teasers that have gone before.
The film sees Josh Brolin’s former serviceman return to LA to find it in the grip of vicious gangster Mickey Cohen (Sean Penn). “This isn’t a crimewave,” says Nick Nolte’s grizzled police chief. “It’s enemy occupation.”
Unwilling to see his city laid so low, Brolin rustles up a posse of gun-toting lawmen for an all-out assault upon Cohen and his goons. No playing things by the book, just good old-fashioned war between cops and crims.

Anyone wondering whether there would be enough action on show will surely have had their fears allayed by that little taster, with Ryan Gosling laying waste to about half a dozen mobsters on his own.
Directed by Ruben Fleischer and co-starring Emma Stone, Anthony Mackie and Giovanni Ribisi, Gangster Squad opens in the UK on 11 January 2013.
