A fiery horse with the speed of light? Check.
A cloud of dust? Check.
A hearty Hi-yo Silver?
Well, the immortal line forged in the 1930s radio serial isn’t uttered in the first trailer for Disney’s action-packed update of “ The Lone Ranger,” but there’s plenty more to enjoy in the 1-minute-30-second trailer that debuted Tuesday night on “The Tonight Show With Jay Leno.”
The clip opens with an ominous shot of a train barreling down a track.
“From the time of Alexander the great, no man could travel faster than the horse that carried him, not anymore,” says Tom Wilkinson’s Latham Cole in a voiceover.
“Imagine time and space under the mastery of man. Power that makes emperors and kings look like fools, whoever controls this controls the future.”

Of course, Depp — wearing enough black and white face makeup to make Gene Simmons blush — is the real star, making his Tonto less of the stereotype that Jay Silverheels was forced to play on the ’50s television series.
“There come a time kemo sabe, when good men must wear masks,” Tonto says in the trailer, before a shot of him clinging on for dear life on the underside of a locomotive.

“We’ve made a big western the old-fashioned way,” Verbinski told USA Today.
“The Lone Ranger” rides into theaters on July 3, 2013.
