Movie News Spike Lee's Oldboy Out Next October ADD COMMENTS

It's been a long time in development but the remake of Park Chanwook's Oldboy directed by Spike Lee and starring Josh Brolin, Sharlto Copley, Elizabeth Olsen and Samuel L. Jackson is finally coming together and less than a month after the announcement that FilmDistrict would be distributing the project, they've already picked a release date.

That date is in less than a year on October 11, 2013, which would put it up against Paul Greengrass' Somali pirate movie Captain Phillips, starring Tom Hanks, and Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith 3D.

Since the movie just started production in New Orleans earlier this month, it's probably too early to tell if this date was chosen because it might be worthy of any sort of awards consideration or it just feels like a Fall movie, but there you go.

Those who've been anxiously awaiting this remake will finally get to see it in less than a year; those who've been dreading it will only have a year to wait until they can complain about it further.

Movie News James Ransone Replaces Nate Parker in Oldboy ADD COMMENTS

James Ransone is set to replace the formerly attached Nate Parker in the Spike Lee-directed remake of Oldboy, Variety reports. Scheduling conflicts are cited as the reason for the swap.

Ransone, who previously worked with Lee on Inside Man and who just starred in Sinister, would reportedly play a doctor that works with Elizabeth Olsen's character.

Josh Brolin stars as the lead character Joe (Dae-su Oh in the original) who is captured and imprisoned in a hotel room for over two decades (15 years in the original) with no understanding as to why. When he is suddenly released, he's told that he has just four days to determine the reason for his imprisonment.

Sharlto Copley will co-star as the antagonist and Samuel L. Jackson is expected to make a cameo appearance in the film.

The film will be based on the manga series by Garon Tsuchiya and Nobuaki Minegishi.

Total Film: The Modern Guide to The Movies Nicole Kidman stars in first trailer for Park Chan-wook’s Stoker: watch now

The first trailer has arrived for Stoker, Oldboy director Park Chan-wook’s English-language debut, and it's every bit as unnerving as we’d hoped for.

The film follows the troubled adolescence of young India (Mia Wasikowska), whose father dies in a car accident, only for the sinister “Uncle Charlie” (Matthew Goode) to emerge from the woodwork and shack up with her mum (Nicole Kidman).

Not long after his arrival, India begins to suspect Charlie of some kind of involvement in her father’s death, but rather than recoiling from him, she begins to grow increasingly infatuated…

Take a look at the new trailer, below…

Unsettling stuff, we think you’ll agree. Matthew Goode has played the feckless cad more times than we can count, but this time he seems genuinely menacing. Meanwhile, Kidman comes off as pleasingly unhinged while Wasikowska looks on career-best form as the damaged youngster at the heart of proceedings.

Written by Prison Break star Wentworth Miller, and co-starring Jacki Weaver, Lucas Till and Dermot Mulroney, Stoker opens in the UK on 1 March 2013.
