Movie News James Ransone Replaces Nate Parker in Oldboy ADD COMMENTS

James Ransone is set to replace the formerly attached Nate Parker in the Spike Lee-directed remake of Oldboy, Variety reports. Scheduling conflicts are cited as the reason for the swap.

Ransone, who previously worked with Lee on Inside Man and who just starred in Sinister, would reportedly play a doctor that works with Elizabeth Olsen's character.

Josh Brolin stars as the lead character Joe (Dae-su Oh in the original) who is captured and imprisoned in a hotel room for over two decades (15 years in the original) with no understanding as to why. When he is suddenly released, he's told that he has just four days to determine the reason for his imprisonment.

Sharlto Copley will co-star as the antagonist and Samuel L. Jackson is expected to make a cameo appearance in the film.

The film will be based on the manga series by Garon Tsuchiya and Nobuaki Minegishi.

Total Film: The Modern Guide to The Movies Jason Statham stars in first trailer for Parker: watch now

Parker, Jason Statham’s new starring vehicle, has released a first trailer, featuring everyone’s favourite cockney bruiser as a very moral thief.

According to Parker, he doesn’t steal from people who can’t afford it and doesn’t hurt people who don’t deserve it. Seems fair enough, doesn’t it?

Sadly, his crew doesn’t place a high price on morals, opting to rip Parker off and leave him for dead. Big mistake.

Take a look at the new trailer, below…

Call us simple-minded, but the prospect of Jason Statham and Michael Chiklis going toe to toe has us helpless with fisticuff-induced delight. Bald hard-men beating seven shades out of each other? Sign us up.

Directed by Taylor Hackford and co-starring Jennifer Lopez, Nic Nolte and Wendell Pierce, Parker opens in the UK on 25 January 2013.

Sarah Jessica Parker doesn't want to play a 'poor man's version' of Carrie Bradshaw

Her role as burgeoning columnist Carrie Bradshaw on "Sex and the City" has earned Sarah Jessica Parker New York icon status, so it's understandable why the actress says she'd be hesitant to play a similar part in the future.

"I don't love the idea of playing another woman who loves fashion and is slightly flawed in New York City," the "New Year's Eve" actress told the November issue of Elle magazine. "I loved Carrie, and I don't want to do the poor man's version of her.

"And while those are often the lucrative things to do, it's more reason to look in the other direction."

Parker, 47, has since moved into roles that have spun her decidedly away from the single-in-the-city protagonist she portrayed in the long-running series.

Kind of.

Actress Octavia Spencer from ‘The Help’ appears in the newest issue of Elle magazine.

In 2011's "New Year's Eve," Parker played single mom Kim, whose overprotective tendencies cause a schism between her and daughter, Hailey (Abigail Breslin).

The actress's staunch refusal to take on similar roles is just one of a few revelations Hollywood starlets made in Elle's 19th annual Women in Hollywood issue.

Emma Watson, of ‘Harry Potter’ fame is featured in the November issue of Elle.

Also featured are "The Help" star Octavia Spencer, "Harry Potter"'s resident know-it-all Emma Watson and indie dang Elle Fanning.

"I can't really remember my life without movies ... [Growing up in Hollywood] is no different really," 14-year-old Fanning said of being a child actor. "I make movies the same way other kids play tennis or go to piano lessons.

"I'm trying to get better at what I want to do, just like other kids are trying to get better at what they want to do."
